The Hornets try to cater for all ages and abilities, from the 12 minute miler to the 12 miles an hour athlete. We are affiliated to the ARC (Association of Running Clubs). Club nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays, meeting at 7.20p.m for a 7.30pm start at the Dead Poets Pub in Holbrook. Usually there are different abilities for you to join but if you are a new starter there will be a member to look after you. They might even buy you a drink in the bar afterwards.

All year round, members participate in a variety of different distances and types of running, including fell-running, cross country and road running, some members also meet on weekends for a longer, steady runs at varied mileages. Runs are usually arranged on the club nights by the members running.

Throughout the year we also enjoy lively social events see Kens Corner

Club history

The club was 'formed' on a quiet evening in January 1998 around a table at
the Bell & Harp when Ken was the landlord. Training nights began on a
Tuesday and Thursday, that is to say 3 or 4 people began to meet at 7pm
for a shortrun around the village. This expanded into half a dozen or so who
began to enter local events; 10k and then Tour of the Derwent Valley, etc.
At this point we started to think about giving a name to the club and organising some kit - after much discussion and laughter at suggestions made, we applied for affilitation to NOEAA in August '98, Ken was duly 'elected' Treasurer and Denise as Secretary. The affiliation was approved 5th November '98 and we
were attached to Derbys County District Athletics. Membership of the club
has grown steadily every year since then; we have had to move to larger accommodation for the annual Xmas dinner (the club AGM)!

December 2007 saw the first extraordinary meeting where it was agreed that we should change the name to Little Eaton Hornets - as yet this has not been confirmed by UK Athletics but, 10 years on it looks like the club is heading in a new direction, with the smart new logo and super website on the way!
